No Need for Advertising

>> Wednesday, March 30, 2011

This is my aunt in Butuan City. She makes the best Budbod and Suman, as well as Biko. It is a specialty food business that their family came to embrace for almost thirty two years. When I visited them last week, I was able to help make these Budbod.. Actually, help in the packaging process, not in the cooking, hehehe.. These are so good, that even the congressman ordered some for his birthday celebration.. which is actually the same date as mine. I can vouch for how good they are as I've grown up with the taste of Budbod along with my grandma's Torta Cebuana and the creamy Binangkal that another aunt makes. But then these days, it's only the Budbod and Biko that stood. With my grandma gone, nobody in the family has sustained the business, even if they do not need advertising flags to make the products known, as they are already famous among my grandma's patrons. And believe me, patrons of my grandma's Torta are aplenty..

The trip in Butuan was meant to rekindle such memories through my aunts' and uncle's cooking, but everything  was different when we went there. Health has become a hindrance, and our trip was shortened because I was called to update my portfolio for DepEd Teacher's ranking..

Anyway, above is one of the Budbod I was about to wrap with the banana leaf.. When we were done, I had my share of the Suman, with sugar.. Suman is actually just the white part of the Budbod.

The Rainy Birthdays...

March 23 was my grandma Viating's birthday, so we went to Oro Gardens to visit her and our grandpa. It was raining terribly but we went anyway.. Aunts Irma and Nancy brought this yummy cake:

We said our prayers and spent a while there until it was really dark already.. Visiting our grandparents had always been a bonding moment for our family. We get to talk about so many things under the sun.. errr. moon.. stars, and even under the rain, lol.. from simple facts, daily life, age spots, new gadgets and everything within scope.. We didn't mind talking under our umbrellas.. The thing is, we were there to pay respect for our grandma and grandpa..

Last night, Aunt Grace invited us to dinner as it was the birthday of my grandma's sister, Nanay Purie. Another rainy birthday.. Unfortunately, none of us could go because of the rain, and some health issues. My father was not feeling well, so we had to ready ourselves for whatever will happen. I too, have had the worst dry cough that I could almost pee while coughing.. After coming home from my cousin's, I rested at home. So today, I am cramming as I have lots of unfinished tasks.. whew..
Anyway, rainy birthdays or not, I lighted a candle for both grandmas.. Missing them.. and their glowing smiles...

Chicken Soup

Back in the contact center days, I remember our team leader, jumping about and eating in between conference calls. Well, maybe she was such an expert to be able to do that.. Multitasking in the team lead level, lol.. As to why I remembered her, blame it on my cousin's Chicken Soup..Chicken soup was TL's favorite...

Photobucket

I visited my cousin yesterday and she told me to bring food to cook. Bought some Slers sausages, Sunpride Cooked Ham and a Chicken Thigh from Swift Foods. The sausage and ham were cooked according to their packet, but the chicken was transformed to a marvelous health soup..

So yummy! This is also my entry for this week's Food Trip Friday. For more, click on the badge below:

Support the RH Bill

When you are a mom, there is nothing that you can think about except how to make things better for your kids and family. Above all, their health, safety and security matters most. I think that is the reason why a lot of responsible parents would opt to have home automation for peace of mind.. But it is all different when you have lots of kids to take care of and the budget is limited. Depressing as it may be, but most of the time, it is only food that has become a priority for some who could no longer afford other needs for the kids and family.

Surely, if we all support  the RH Bill, we can give every Filipino a chance to have a better life. We can give a chance for all kids to go to school, have enough time for nurturance and family growth. We can give NOT only food to appease current hunger, but a better future with NO MORE hunger..

In Moderation

>> Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Eating too much sweet is bad. But total avoidance of sugar and sugary foods is not at all healthy too. Sugar levels in the body need to be in normal state, but it does not mean that eating sugar in moderation is bad. Sure, if there is too much intake of sugar, that will cause a lot of problems, even if one goes to connecticut jungle gyms.. The key is the term "moderation". All in moderate portions.

If one has diabetes, it does not mean that the person will have to quit sugar at all. Instead, sugar levels need to be monitored..  That's what I learned from this brochure I am reading..

Today is a Double Celebration..

>> Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Yes, today is a double celebration as it is my mom's 60th birthday and my parent's 36th wedding anniversary. That means, I am now turning 35.. hahaha..

But then, there will be no party of some sort today.. just a simple family meal that will be full of cake (two delicious cakes from Red Ribbon... Tiramisu and Chocolate Heaven...) and other desserts, lol.. because tomorrow is the graduation of River and Lili and my birthday on Friday.. So we will all have our family treat on Saturday.. Tentatively, out of town..  That would also be an advance party for my sister who is also going to graduate on the 23rd (or 22nd, not sure with the date coz I forgot)
Last night, Honey, River, Lili and I prepared the Mango Float and the Tuna Spaghetti.. In the morning, we shall do the Fruit Salad and all others..  for dinner later.. As to the main dish, we still do not know, hehehe ... See, it's near Holy Week and we can't eat Pork and other meats (but we had beef last night, lol).. Maybe Seafood later tonight.. we'll see..
Anyway, the sauce of this Spaghetti is made from Tuna and Mushroom, Italian style.. yummy! Parents did not get off the bed after we greeted them earlier at 12 midnight, but we sampled the foodies above, hahaha.. taste test before serving them later--- except the cake of course.. we'll have them later--- can't wait! (Drooling Mode)

The Man, The Chicken and The Blog--

A man who ate an entire chicken complained to his friends that the restaurant where he bought the chicken from should be responsible for causing him stomach ache. His friends told him that it isn't the restaurant's fault for he consumed all the chicken in just one sitting. He insisted that it is their fault. So a friend of his offered to come by his house and talked some sense into him. He compared the incident to a motorcycle accident, which accordingly was the fault of the driver. So was the comparison. But then, the man said, what if it is the fault of the maker of the motorcycle? What if the motorcycle was not at all safe to drive, hence, the accident. That was the only time that the friend listened intently to the man. And yeah, what if the chicken was bad after all. So immediately, he brought his friend to the hospital for some check up. And well, it was found out that some virus of some sort came from the chicken. And the man was relieved. Finally, he has a witness and proof of his claims. When asked how he came up with the thought, he replied that he read from a blog about motorcycle accident attorney who are said to be committed to provide their clients with superior service and legal representation for accident injury victims all over the state of Texas. Amazing info..

Food Pasalubong Cart: Malaysia Style

So like the Philippine setting. So many food stalls and food carts with similar foodies, but tastes differently and well, presented differently.. That was what caught my attention when we went to Johor Bahru, Malaysia for lunch and shopping at Johor Bahru Square..

If Marooned...

>> Thursday, March 10, 2011

If you have been caught in the middle of the road, on a strange place, where people speak a different language than you, and you need roadside assistance plan, what should you do? It seem quite unfair to be in that kind of situation, but sometimes, it does happen, so we better be prepared. A friend of mine asked me that while we were having dinner one time, and well, surreal as it may seem, I answered with a definite YES. well, why not? I have had Japanese students before. I have had Chinese as well as Korean students, all learning English at a rather slow pace because they were beginners, and tutoring them in Conversational English was rather NOT a difficult task because I go by body language. It was rather fun.

So maybe it would not be as bad as it would seem should I get marooned in an unknown land, with no language compatibility.. I guess all we can do in that very situation is smile and be friendly----

What do you think?

Food Republic at Vivo City

>> Tuesday, March 8, 2011

This is actually a late post as I just found the pictures now.. Hehehe.. This was on the third to the last day that
my aunts and parents were visiting us in Singapore.. (us, because I was not supposed to come home as I had done so, hehehe...) This was when we went to Sentosa.. Well, we were supposed to take the rails, but after lunch at Food Republic, Tito Noel took us to SENTOSA via the casino's way.. we took the rails after our Sentosa tour..

Below are some of the foodies we ate:

Chili Chicken Wings

One of the plates with Mixed Fruits (btw, that purple thing is not a fruit.. I wonder why the "auntie" placed it there.. hahaha)

I do not know the name of this soup, I forgot--- sorry..
Satay (pork, beef, chicken and lamb) and that round thing that is sliced into four parts is actually rice, which we didn't quite guess to be so, hahaha
Another plate of Mixed Fruits
All went well for everyone with each a cup of Fresh sugar Cane drink..

I can't believe I still have lots of unposted photos.. Well, keep posted..

Must Be The Floor Grinders..

A new restaurant is now open. It has the greatest ambiance and well, it is really very cozy. I bet they use the best concrete floor polishing to make the floors shine.. I heard that when the place was yet in the process of renovation, the contractor needed to use strong floor grinders and all other tools for floor removal. It was not as good looking as when it was back then. After the transformation, everything looked majestically wonderful..

I think that the contractors really did a good job with the transformation the place. I heard that innovatechproducts.com is where they got their tools and machinery so their work must really be superb. It all takes not only skills but good machinery too. I have heard a lot of building contractors and engineers say that. As a matter of fact, even if the worker is not that skillful, for as long as they have the right tool and regimen, then they will do just fine.. Well, that is what they say.. But perhaps, there is some truth to that one. Perhaps tools really create an impact in the project. Even simple art work can be cited as an example for this theory. Oh well, I am sure the foreman of the project is good too. Good that he has picked the right skilled workers to match the right tools and machinery. Making the right choices is also a skill. Don't you agree?

Anyway, back to this restaurant. I love the interiors as well as the over all design of the place. It just makes you wanna drift and have a happy meal there always.. Now, if you are curious as to where this might be, do send me a comment or two. I would love to discuss this further on..

Have A Break..

>> Saturday, March 5, 2011

Here in the Philippines, an electric car insurance is not likely applicable because there is not enough citizens who own electric cars. And if ever they do, it is not here in the Philippines but in other countries. Of course, people wit vehicles are swamped with fees and dues because of their car insurances and all other car maintenance. But some, as a breather, would give themselves a break from these by selling their vehicles and buying new ones.. At least that was what my friend told me. That is how they get to pay less for their vehicle maintenance.. They buy a new one every time, and every six months to a year, they sell, and buy a new one..

Just Asking..

I wonder if professionals like a foot doctor, or a Mesothelioma lawyer. or a psychologist would eat Balut.. I know it is not in one's position or profession, but Balut is something that people of other cultures would certainly doubt eating.. Just like my musician friend from Dallas, Texas.

How about "Balat" or Sea Cucumber? Would you eat it?
