Yummy Silvanas

>> Sunday, July 24, 2016

My parents met my sister in Butuan City for a 25th year wedding celebration, where the couple had their vows renewed through a celebratory wedding ceremony. Sister came from Dumaguete and she brought these Silvanas for us.. Oh how they travelled from Dumaguete to Butuan and then to Cagayan de Oro City..

Anyway, every time she comes home she brings home lots of boxes of Silvanas. But since she brought them to Butuan, she shared some with our cousins and relatives and only two were left for us here. Not bad, since we always have our share every time..

I am quite amazed because one of the boxes had these mixed flavors of Vanilla and Chocolate. Well, we are fond of Chocolate but Ira, her daughter, likes Vanilla so much.

Harvests

>> Sunday, April 10, 2016

From our front yard, we have some plants that we were never able to enjoy, not until today. My brother's house has always been a home away from home.. We are supposed to live here already, but due to some problems with carpool, we opted not to. This summer, we vowed to come and clean the house, arrange our things and make the place comfortable to live in.

My baby brother picked some Calamansi, and some Cherry Tomatoes.. two of the plants we have here..

Enough for us to use in our cooking while we are here..

A Taste of New Zealand

>> Sunday, March 6, 2016

Today we attended the free orientation seminar for New Zealand Immigration at Grand Caprice. It was fully packed, and there were three Kiwis who oriented us on the different schools to enroll in. Well, it was more like selling their schools, hahahaha.. Reminds me of my job as GCPO and Marketing Officer in a school I previously worked in.

Anyway, after the talks, we had the question and answer portion, and chocolates were given to those who can give the correct answers. We had fun before the open forum.

After dinner, we tried the chocolate.. True enough, there were Peanuts in the Milk Chocolate bar..

It's our first time to try New Zealand chocolate, and it was okay. Quite similar to a local brand that we sometimes eat. Thank you Mr. Joel Angon, answering the question correctly means I was really attentive in all talks, hahahaha.. Most importantly, Lili was happy. She was the one who kept telling me to answer a question so we could win a chocolate.. hehehe

Anyway, I wonder if there are gibson acoustic guitars for sale in New Zealand. Buying from there may be cheaper than buying abroad. Considering, the person who wants to buy one is already in NZ. And he said he will send some chocolates too.. hahaha

Sunday Special Fried Rice

Today I felt inspired to cook fried rice. I was thinking of something like those that we ate in Singapore, but with my own twist, and according to what's available in our pantry. I checked and these are some of what I prepared.

Chopped 1 head of Onion, and minced 1 head of Garlic. Beat 4 eggs and prepared one day old rice. Other ingredients include Pineapple tidbits, Chickpea, extra virgin Olive oil, Saffron, Green and Yellow cracked peas, Lentils, dried Sweet Basil, fresh Basil, Peppermint, Tuna, and Parsley.

First, caramelize the Onions and Garlic. Move them to the side of the carajay, then cook the omelette, first half first, then the last half. When cooked, slowly run the turner to cut the omelette in shreds while continuously cooking. Move the shredded omelette towards the caramelized garlic and onion, and cook the Tuna. Add Olive oil if you feel the need to do so.

Add the Chickpea and the Pineapple tidbits, while the cracked Green and Yellow peas and Lentils are boiling in a pot. Before boiling, make sure that the Lentils, Yellow and Green Peas are soaked in water.

Add the Saffron, chopped Parsley, Sweet Basil and fresh Basil to the mix.

Season with salt and pepper.. Add the chopped Peppermint leaves last..

Before serving, get a sprig of Peppermint leaves to garnish..

The kids loved their fried rice..

Baked and Steamed Chocolate Cake Drowned in Chocolate Sauce

>> Sunday, February 28, 2016

Today we wanted to eat cake.. We wanted something crunchy and moist so we decided to make a full batter, and cook half by baking in the turbo broiler, while the remaining half, steamed in our steamer over the stove.

For 350 degrees, and in 30 minutes, we got our result. Above is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside.. The steamed half looks like Siopao bun, but it's actually soft to moist..

For the chocolate sauce we simply cooked 1 can of condensed milk and 1 bar of Selbourne chocolate in a double boiler..

When the chocolate sauce was done, we removed it from heat, and let it cool a bit. Then we poured half of the sauce to the baked cake and the remaining half poured unto the steamed cake.

Let it cool before putting it inside the refrigerator. After an hour, serve..

It's truly yummy! Thanks Ira, Lili and Sweet for making this with me..
