From Market to Table

>> Saturday, January 10, 2015

We went to Cogon Market today to buy fish and vegetables. And after roaming around, look at what we found... Peanuts for only P 30. This is not salted and freshly cooked. This is perfect for our less or no salt resolution.

The fishes we found were nice, and going there we have three recipes in mind, including this lovely Pinaksiw using these small fishes and the heads of the Maya-maya..

We made Bas-oy using Malunggay and Kalabasa with ginger and lemongrass..

The Maya-maya we deep fried except for the heads which  I mentioned earlier..

And this actually excited me.. They are called Bilong bilong by the vendors, but we call them Tabas. This fried treat is best when freshly done, so if you fry this and have left overs, make sure to reheat in an oven. This said fish sips in more oil so use a healthier kind like Canola oil..

Because of the rains, prices of fishes in the market have gone up. And there are just a few vendors selling even on an early Saturday morning.. The vendors said, there aren't much supply.. Oh well, it is better than no fish at all. I remember, after Sendong, the only fish we were able to buy are those imported frozen fillets of Pangasius fish or what is referred to as Cream Dory.. But it has become controversial these days that we no longer buy it for health reasons,
