Fruits: The Healthy Alternative for Sweet Desserts

>> Tuesday, November 1, 2011

After a full and heavy meal, most people would result in looking for a sweet dessert in order to wash the flavors in one’s palette. While these treats are sure to be delicious, it might not be healthy. A meal might not be complete without your favorite dessert but if medical or health conditions prevent you from getting that slice of cake or scoop of ice cream, it is time to consider a healthier alternative: fruits. Rich in nutrients and high in fiber, there are a number of benefits that can be derived in having a serving of fruits everyday.

Is there a right and wrong way when it comes to eating fruits? The good thing about this healthy alternative is that is very versatile, you can just eat it by itself or have it mixed with yogurt or milk. There are many ways on how you can enjoy its flavor and taste and for some a fruit salad is the best way to have a complete serving, all in one bowl. While there are no set of rules, it is better not to mix the citrus one from those that are sweet or pulpy. Also avoid a mixture that can upset your stomach quickly.

Individuals suffering from digestive problems could find relieve by eating fruits that are high in fiber. Studies also suggest that fruits are good for those who are in a diet. Eating one before a meal could help curb the appetite which means you will eat less during mealtime. Keep in mind that certain types of fruits already have natural sugar content and some of them might be harmful for those with diabetes.

Just Dinner and Some Food Thoughts and Wishes

So happy with my dinner today. We arrived late here in Butuan City and it was actually raining too. But what greeted us for dinner was heavenly.

My aunt prepared for us a treat. My all time favorite, Prawns. OMG! I simply finished four and I was speechless.. hahaha..

Of course, before we had dinner, we were served Tatay Laloy's pansit. It has pork, chicken, spicy sausage, fish and everything else in it. So yummy! Tomorrow, we will be visiting my grandparents' tomb as well as my Uncle Ric's. After which, we shall partake of  Butuan City's Lechon for lunch--- can't wait! But what I really, really miss is my grandpa's duck recipe. I hope to be able to try it one more time. I just know my Tita Carrie can cook it the same way my grandpa did when he was alive..
