Holy Week Delights

>> Saturday, March 30, 2013

Holy Week treats that are usually in every Filipino homes are Benignit or Ginataang Bilo-bilo or Ginataang Halo-halo in Tagalog. For those who do not know it, or are not familiar with it, it consists of a thick mixture of tubers such as taro, purple yam, sweet potato, as well as bananas, jack fruit,  sago, tapioca pearls and sugar, cooked in coconut milk and thickened with milled glutinous rice. It's a warm root crop and fruit stew that everyone loves to eat, in lieu of a complete meal during the Holy Week. Personally, I like my Benignit cold, where it has just come right out from the refrigerator.

Aside from Benignit, there is also Biko, another glutinous rice treat that Filipinos love.

And of course, there is suman too..

So what did you have during the Holy Week?

Lunch on Maundy Thursday

>> Friday, March 29, 2013

Okay..okay.. and I thought we won't be eating a full meal on Holy Week... Well, people in the house agreed on a NO PORK/MEAT meal.. So we had Ginataang Mongo with Fish Flakes and Malunggay...

At least this one, Ginataang Mongo with Fish Flakes and Malunggay, is good for the health, lol.. Another vegetable dish is the Radish Salad that is everyone's favorite...

Radish Salad is best paired with Fried Fish, any kind of fish will do.. and you get the same yumminess in the partnership---

And because it was hot even this early morning, we thought of cooling everything down with Selecta Cornetto...

Twas a great meal..
