The good thing is that you can also buy them for immediate personal delivery or arrange convenient and safe storage at an independent bank or your depository. It's always a good idea to invest in gold or silver, as they do not depreciate in value.
Now, if you are to compare gold coins with food, I'd say they are comparable with cupcakes. Invest on a really delicious cupcake and you will always win praises among your kid's friends.
