THE BEST FOODIES IN BUTUAN CITY

I grew up with food around me. Hehehe... Such an overstatement, but true. My grandmother, Lola Berta, is most sought after because of "Torta ni Alberta"... But apart from the Torta (large size cup cake), our family in Butuan City, also makes "Biko" and "Bud-bud" (both are derived from "tapol" or glutenous rice).

This is Bud-bud or nilambiran nga suman...

This is BIKO....
All three foodies have made my Lola famous. People around Butuan and even those from other cities in Caragga and even as far as Davao City, would come by the house to order, not just a dozen but more. Every day, she would wake up as early as 3 am to start baking. While she was assisted by Auntie Vangie, Auntie Becky and Auntie Ellen. In the summer, I do my part of helping... I guess that's where I have acquired the love to cook, bake and eat--- hehehe... Unfortunately, when my grandma passed away, the baking of the Torta stopped. Only the BIKO and BUDBUD can be found now, as Auntie Vangie and Uncle Laloy have continued my grandmother's legacy. I miss the Torta. It's actually adapted from Torta Cebuana with a twist. A secret ingredient is added to make it unique and delicious. I will not mention it here because I have plans of reviving my Lola's business. Such good memories whenever I think about it.

Below is Cassava Custard, a new addition to Auntie Vangie's and Uncle Laloy's business. It is creamy and oh so delicious. Do you know that I finished the four pieces? Hehehe...

Anyway, the foodies on photo are the ones they brought with them from Butuan City in their latest visit...
